Telling Your Brand’s Story on Twitter

With regards to marketing, some brands focus on storytelling more than others. For example, a Super Bowl commercial or glossy brochure is the perfect vehicle for telling rich and emotional stories, while the limitations that come with billboards make it difficult to communicate more than a simple slogan.

So, how do you tell stories as a business on Twitter-a platform originally known for its shortness? While brands still follow the original use of Twitter for reactions to events around the world and sharing short messages that direct followers to specified content, many brands have experimented with different, unique ways to use Twitter to their advantage.

1. Go Long with a Thread

While a single Tweet can make a powerful statement, you end up leaving a lot of storytelling techniques in your toolbox. However, with Tweet threads you can create a multi-Tweet story that lets you create a story arc with a beginning, middle, and end. This creates dramatic tension while allowing you to go deeper into the details. By Tweeting a thread, followers can then Retweet and comment on the specific Tweets in the thread that are most relevant, allowing you to drive multiple levels of engagement off of one story.

2. Tweet a video

Maybe the most effective way to ever tell a story is by telling it through a video. Research conducted by Twitter illustrates that people watch more than 1 billion videos on the platform each day, also seeing that Tweets that include a video attract almost ten times more engagements than Tweets that don’t include a video.

3. Use Twitter Moments

Twitter Moments lets you curate a collection of Tweets from your own account as well as Tweets from others that focus on a story, conversation, or event that may be specifically related to your brand. For example, if you’re hosting a user conference and launched several new products, you could then round up Tweets promoting the new products along with reactions from your biggest fans. You can then promote your Moment to all your followers to raise awareness and further improve your account’s engagement.
